The data is clear. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is saving hundreds of $millions a year by not housing thousands of eligible NDIS participants in its Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) program. The SDA program was projected to grow from housing 17,500 NDIS participants housed to 28,000 , with about 24,000 to be housed by mid-2021 . In reality, after six years, there are only 16,347 active participants with SDA supports . The growth rate is slow, with 314 participants added in the September 2021 quarter and 1,107 for the year. Today the program does not even house the number previously living in SDA-like accommodation.
